PT CPAs, PLLC is North Carolina based firm, consisting of several partners and professional staff, in two offices in the Research Triangle region. Each of our partners has more than 20 years of experience in the public accounting profession. During 2011, more than 65% of the partner's attestation engagements were performed on nonprofit and governmental entities. All of our staff is well-versed in current accounting principles and much of our firm's continuing professional education plans are focused around training in the nonprofit/government/yellow book niche. In fact, our technical reviewer partner serves on the North Carolina Association of CPA's Nonprofit Committee.

Our firm's philosophy is to over-perform for our clients. All of our staff has five or more years of experience, and all audit engagements have the detailed audit procedures of sensitive areas performed by the partners. Using this approach our clients receive service that we believe surpasses many of our peer firms. This approach also contributes to the audit efficiency that our clients routinely commend us for.

Joseph Turchetti, CPA

Joe is a 20-year CPA, duly registered in the state of North Carolina and Pennsylvania to practice as a Certified Public Accountant. During the past five years Joe has performed nearly 40 audits, annually, of North Carolina nonprofit and government organizations ranging from university affiliated entities and the state's Smart Start program to local social health facilities. Most recently, Joe has been the individual responsible for the audit services provided to a number of the Foundations at East Carolina University. During these engagements Joe had significant involvement assisting the University's staff with implementing fair valuation reporting and with the recording of restrictive assets. These engagements were run smoothly with the deliverables achieving the University's stated deadlines.

Joe is a member of the AICPA, the NCACPA and serves as a pro-bono volunteer for the North Carolina Center for Non-Profits, where he is called on throughout the year to provide opinions and guidance on technical matters. He also serves as the Treasurer of the Occoneechee Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

James Pappalardo, CPA

Jim is a 20+ year CPA, is duly licensed to practice in the state of North Carolina and Virginia, performs his auditing almost exclusively on nonprofit entities within North Carolina. Jim performs audits on federal health clinics, county-wide social health organizations, Triangle chambers of commerce and Research Triangle Park scientific entities. Jim has a strong background in the development and implementation of an entity's internal control environment.

Jim is a member of the AICPA, the NCACPA, is the former president of the Knightdale Chamber of Commerce and is currently the president of the Raleigh Downtown Lions.

Accounting Tips

  • Check fraud is a reality, so make sure that you keep your company's checkbooks in a secure location. Create monetary limits for checks, set-up a special account for paychecks and keep all other checks made out to business and not individuals.
  • Making sure to keep up-to-date records of all of your financial activities is important. This includes, paying bills, payroll, expenses, and profits. This information is required in order to properly file taxes and can cut accounting costs at tax time.
  • Checking all your billing statements should be routine. Often times spotting extra, hidden or incorrect charges soon after they happen may help resolve issues that cost you extra money for nothing.
